Oman’s Supreme Committee tasked with combating spread of Covid-19 had announced some new measures on 26 December 2021, which would be in effect from the date of the announcement until 31 January 2022. These measures are:
- Vaccination with an approved vaccine is required for entry to Oman for non-citizens above the age of 18 years old. (The official announcement mentions two doses of an approved vaccine, while earlier announcements regarding official vaccines indicate that the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine is also approved, if you are vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson it is best to double-check with your embassy to confirm).
- A negative PCR test certificate is now required for entry to Oman, with test being done a maximum of 72 hours prior to arrival. Previously, arrivals without a PCR test certificate had the option to conduct the test upon arrival in Oman and be in quarantine until the results come out.
- Suspension of decision of preventing entry from countries in earlier announcements by the committee, namely: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini and Mozambique.
These measures have likely been implemented due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 around the world, and it will not be a surprise if additional measures would be taken if the Omicron variant spread continues to cause such rapid rise in cases around the world.
