Covid-19 Travel Restrictions: Oman Reopens Border & Welcomes Tourists Again!

This article is part of our coverage on COVID-19 updates and travel restrictions in Oman, please check the main page for latest updates as the information below may already be superseded.

We are very pleased to update that Oman is finally opening its borders, and as of 1st of September 2021 it is now possible for vaccinated tourists to visit Oman! It has been a long and difficult times with the COVID-19 Pandemic for almost everyone, but there is some hope that we could get back to a sense of normalcy soon.

Oman’s Supreme Committee tasked with combating spread of COVID-19 announced that, as of 1 September 2021, entrance to Oman across all border crossings shall be allowed for all vaccinated adults (aged 18 years and above) who have had full doses of the approved COVID-19 vaccines in Oman (list of approved vaccines in Oman further below). However, please note the following important points:

  • All travelers must have had their 2nd dose of the vaccine (where applicable) at least 14 days prior to their arrival date.
  • Besides being fully vaccinated, all arrivals must take a PCR test either before or upon arrival in Oman to avoid quarantine. For arrivals by land crossings (hello our weekend visitors from the UAE, we really missed you friends!), PCR test should be performed before arrival as there are no testing facilities at the land border crossings. If you decide to take test upon arrival in Oman, then you will be in quarantine until you get the negative test result. While not explicitly stated in the official announcement, it is likely that you will need to be quarantined if you test positive upon arrival, 10 day quarantine is required (per 20-Sep-2021 from Oman Airports website).
  • It is implied that anyone aged under 18 years is exempt from needing to be vaccinated to enter Oman.
  • Subsequent announcement confirmed that all people entering Oman will be subject to these procedures, and there are no country-specific bans.
  • Visitor Visas: Issuing of visas for all categories (including visitor visas) will return to its previous situation pre Covid-19. Please use the Royal Oman Police (ROP) link for the visa application.
  • Registration and uploading of the vaccine certificate to be done on the eMushrif platform, refer to their helpful FAQ for full details.
